I wanted to put a link to an article I read this morning, but it looks like I deleted the email with the link in it.
A congressional investigation of the Energy Star program has raised concerns about the possibility of Fraud in the system. An example product they submitted was a gasoline powered alarm clock which received an "Energy Star" label...

My LCD computer monitor had the energy star label on it, but I must admit I don't really know what it means except that it sounds good and "it's better then nothing".

Your comments still give evidence as to the effectiveness of the program however.

This is interesting and also heartening to see initiative taken towards energy conservation and an overall environment conscious approach. This reminds me of a video I had seen about houses made in deserts in Australia having old tires on the outside to present the heat from reaching in, solar panels on the outside to create electricity for the house and a complete water recyling system making a single house a self sufficient unit and the person had made several such houses in a single desert.
